On Constitution Day (12/25) in 2020, millions of netizens voted in one of the 21st century’s Major Human Rights Abuse Cases. Among them, the Tai Ji Men false tax case and the 919 Zhubei Ms. Huang incident were ranked first and second. It has been 74 year since the establishment of the Constitution, yet Taiwan’s respect for human rights is instead regressing? In the second half of 2020, even after Tai Ji Men was found not guilty of fraud or tax evasion in the court of third instance, Tai Ji Men’s land was auctioned illegally by the Administrative Enforcement Agency, and a volunteer, Ms. Huang, who supported the redress of the Tai Ji Men case was arrested illegally by the police. Legal professionals suspected that there was someone behind the scenes that attempted to stop people from voicing their support for Tai Ji Men. On October 24, in a forum jointly organized by nearly 30 non-governmental organizations, Dr. Lien Fulung, a Taiwan-based professor of Osnabrück University, Germany, stated that President Tsai kept talking about transitional justice measures, but she did the exact opposite, allowing administrative agencies to confiscate people’s property.
Prof. Lien indicated that there are three levels of transitional justice measures: past, present, and future. “Now the Administrative Enforcement Agency of the Executive Yuan forcibly auctioned and confiscated the property of Tai Ji Men. It is like cutting your head off, so that you will never be able to appeal. It means that if the government wants to implement transitional justice and reform the old system, it needs to get rid of all the bad laws. For example, an individual is required to pay half of the tax amount or the fine to file a petition. The government needs to discipline the perpetrators of crimes in the past. In the past, Hou Kuanjen was the prosecutor who infringed on Tai Ji Men’s rights, but he was still promoted. Transitional justice is a constitutional matter. In the future, only when the people become the owners of the country, a large amount of money is invested in education, and the next generation is well educated and become truly righteous Taiwanese, will transitional justice be realized,” said Prof. Lien.

Gao Dingyi, a human rights observer of the Association of World Citizens, NGO with consultative status with ECOSOC, the United Nation, said, “The National Taxation Bureau must not be allowed to spend so much taxpayer money on so many advertisements every year. It is wrong to constantly brainwash the people and say that whenever one receives money, the money is taxable. This is wrong, as everyone should follow the constitutional principles, and whether or not the money received is taxable is determined by law. Take culture as an example, donations to church ministers or donations to churches are not taxable to show respect for religion. The government should treat everyone equally.”

Lin Junlin, chairman of the Chinese Orthodox Alliance, said that great power could confuse one’s mind, and great profits could turn a man into a beast! They did not end well, and he urged everyone to publicize this sentence widely, be vigilant, and keep learning from the sages and saints, because only those who are moral and noble will not lose their minds. “Kings cannot treat their people as dummies. The people’s votes are is very important. People have to understand what world they are living in now, then they will find their goal for improvement. People need to learn how to choose, and when there are options, they can show that they are people of high morals and ideals, and such people will have happiness and good fortune,” said Lin.

Chang Chialin, a professor in the Department of Religious Culture and Information Management at Aletheia University, strongly recommends that Tai Ji Men must speak out about their grievances through live stream media. He said that Tai Ji Men promotes kindness and conscience, but the mainstream media will not report that. On the other hand, when a singer suddenly passes away, the mainstream media can report it for over a week, he lamented, adding that since that is what the mainstream media is like now, people must find ways to help themselves.
