On Feb 5, under the poor weather condition, the Boeing Co. 737-800 diverged the runway while landing at Sabiha Gokcen airport. It caused at least 3 people dead and 179 injured. Video footage displayed the fire on the back of Jet and the split of the front made passengers run away through gaps to the fuselage. Sabiha Gokcen airport was closed immediately after the accident but reopened on the following day.
The governor of Istanbul, Ali Yerlikaya, said the Boeing 737 split into three pieces after falling rapidly around 30 to 40 meters at the end of the runway. The plane was landing and continuing at a high speed off the runway.
Boeing states their main concern is the safety and well-being of the passengers and crew onboard. They would keep contacting with their airline customers and support them as much as they can.
