Scorpions stung three people to death in Egypt's southern city of Aswan after storms washed them into the streets and homes. Thunderstorms have been wreaking havoc in the Nile Valley since November 12. The scorpions were washed into the streets by the recent heavy rains, according to local media.
Aswan Governor Ashraf Attia stated on November 14 that the storms forced scorpions from their hiding places into many houses across the province. Attia also stated that at least 503 people were hospitalized after being stung by scorpions, and that all of them were discharged after being given anti-venom doses. The Egyptian fat-tailed scorpion, one of the world's most lethal scorpions, lives in Egypt. A black fat-tail can kill humans in less than an hour. Breathing difficulties, muscle twitching, and unusual head movements are all symptoms of venom. Anti-venom is used to prevent symptoms before they appear, but it can also help when symptoms worsen.
