It is reported that at least 27 tornadoes have struck the southern US states since December 16th, leading to at least three people dead, several others injured, buildings such as homes and churches destroyed, trees felled and power outages.
Based on the data of the tracking site PowerOutage.us, more than 28,300 people in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama suffered from power cuts.
A winter storm system passed through the South, Midwest and Northeast United States was blamed for causing at least 15 deaths; 12 people dead due to icy road conditions in the Midwest. According to the National Weather Service, it is expected that the harsh weather would last until December 24th.
