U.S. President Donald Trump has reversed his earlier decision to impose 50% tariffs on European Union imports starting June 1. Instead, he has reinstated the original deadline of July 9 to allow more time for trade negotiations.

On May 25, President Trump announced that he was no longer actively seeking a trade agreement with the EU. However, he emphasized that the delay in implementing tariffs was intended to provide additional time for discussions.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen supported Trump’s characterization of their recent call. She affirmed that the EU is ready to proceed with trade talks swiftly and decisively.
