The Istanbul Convention was set up for protecting women from violence in 2011. However, on March 20, Turkey, as the first cosignatory, left the Convention as reported by President Erdogan’s decree. The Council of Europe and rights groups throughout the world has condemned the decision as catastrophic news.
However, it is only a drop in the ocean, in Turkish government’s current rights violation records. Turkey people’s rights and well-being of critical voices are severely jeopardized.
Earlier in March, within four days, the Turkish authority imperiled its human rights promises. They are especially with respect to the right to freedom of association and expression. Such as, human rights advocators were charged over social media posts. Or, they were arrested by demonstration with shouting slogans.
