Onboard Uganda Airlines flight UR 446 bound for Dubai on November 26, one passenger was caught on camera hawking grasshoppers in polythene bags. On November 28, Paul Mubiru and Hajib Kiggundu were apprehended by security officers as they arrived at Entebbe International Airport from Dubai aboard Uganda Airlines flight 445. The police have charged Mubiru and Kiggundu on three counts: common nuisance behavior, negligence, and refusal to follow lawful in-flight instructions.
This is in response to an incident in which Mubiru was seen on Uganda Airlines selling grasshoppers, a local delicacy known as Nsenene. While Kiggundu was filming the video, the public responded with both criticism and praise, which he later shared on Tiktok and other social media platforms.
According to Uganda Police Force spokesperson Fred Enanga, Mubarak and Kiggundu will face charges because their disruptive behavior has harmed not only the airline but also the country's image. Meanwhile, General Edward Katumba, Uganda's Minister of Works and Transport, has ordered that the Uganda Airlines crew be suspended immediately while the incident is investigated.
In an unexpected turn of events, Uganda's national carrier stated that if requested, it would consider adding Nsenene to its domestic and international flight menus, announcing that it would benefit the East African nation's culture.
