António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, pointed out that the youth was in danger even before the COVID-19 outbreak. On April 27th, Mr. Guterres suggested the United Nations Security Council that every nation should strengthen the young people’s capability and provide the opportunity for them. He also warned that the radical groups might make use of the youth for progressive action during the spread of COVID-19.
According to the report on Security Council Resolution 2250, more than 1.54 billion students were leaving the classroom due to coronavirus. Ahead of COVID-19, the youth were already threatened by brutality and combat when pursuing human rights. Nevertheless, they still stand out for fighting against COVID-19.
Delivering the four-point goal for the UN Security Council, António Guterres called on the members to assist the teens, including the expenditures on their participation, organizations, and initiatives. Last but not least, the UN Secretary-General called for a better recovery from COVID-19 with further investment on the young people to meet Sustainable Development Goals.
