The US Internal Revenue Service announced on Feb. 14 that there are 26.9 million people who have filed tax up to Feb. 8. The tax rebate averages of $1949, compared to $2135 last year, dropping 8.7%. The total amount of tax return declined from $28.9 billion last year to $22.2 billion, 23% less.
The Democratic Party believes that the tax law enacted by the Republican Party seriously hurts the middle class. The public express dissatisfaction and think that the new tax law brings more benefits to big companies and rich people. In the past, people used to have high tax rebates, so 75% of taxpayers rely on getting government's annual paycheck.
President Trump vowed the government would cut taxes for families to an average of $4,000. The Ministry of Finance said that the new tax law had more advantages than disadvantages. Most people have reduced the amount of withholding in their salaries and can actually receive higher wages, which is better than the people paying too much tax, resulting in a high tax rebate at the end of the year. The changes of new tax law, Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, include adjustments to wage withholdings, the nearly doubled standard deductions, local taxes and personal income taxes deduction.
