The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States advised people to avoid cruise travel regardless of their vaccination status. Confirmed cases of omicron variants have recently increased on cruise ships. The CDC issued warnings to Americans to avoid traveling on ships.
Over 90 cruise ships have been monitored for COVID-19 by the CDC. Between December 15 and December 29, cruise ships reported approximately 5,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Viruses are easily transmitted in crowded places, according to the CDC. Even people who have been fully vaccinated or receive a booster are at high risk of contracting viruses or spreading variants.
According to the CDC website, 91 cruise ships are under investigation. According to the Associated Press, it has been difficult for the agency to provide specific confirmed cases on cruise ships up to this point.
The CDC advised travelers to get vaccines before boarding in order to have a safe trip. Passengers should wear masks in public areas. Passengers who have completed their cruises should self-quarantine for five days. The CDC advised unvaccinated passengers to isolate themselves for seven days after disembarking from cruise ships.
According to a spokesperson for the Cruise Line International Association, the cruise industry was dissatisfied with the CDC's decisions because the most recent suggestions appeared to be anti-ship travel. The cruise industry, on the other hand, would continue to cooperate with the CDC's advisory in order to protect public health and safety.
