Most recently an American tourist has returned a block of ancient Roman marble to Italy’s National Roman Museum. The artefact was believably stolen during a woman’s trip to Rome in 2017. The museum’s director Stephane Verger said the artefact was taken from the popular tourist site, the Forum, which was once the ancient center of Rome. Unfortunately, the artefact was inscribed with the phrase "To Sam, love Jess, Rome 2017."
A similar event occurred to a Canadian woman who had returned artefacts stole from Pompeii in 2005. The woman claimed that the artefacts, including a piece of ceramic and sections of an ancient amphora, and two mosaic tiles, were stolen as her souvenirs.
The museum’s director Stephane Verger also mentioned to the parcel was delivered from Atlanta, Gerogia. Meanwhile, the artefact was enclosed with a note expressing that she pleaded for forgiveness in taking the artefact from its rightful place and writing on the item as well. Verger told the news reporter that the returned item from Jess meaning a spontaneous gesture, but the fruit of conscious reflection.
