Disintegrate the national “accomplice structure” through the power of the people's "knowledge"
Chang Meiying, the author of "Who Stole Their Youth" which jumped to the top ranking of the new books in Taiwan’s BOOKS. COM CO., LTD.(博客來) bookstore, attended a series of forums on “True Legal and Tax Reform, Saving Taiwan with Conscience”. This book emphasized that "good citizens cannot be fooled”. In the book, she re-examined the Tai Ji Men tax case and used it as a prescription to save the country and the people. Thirty experts and scholars had written prefaces or comments for this book , which made the book even more powerful. It is hoped that this book will be widely read and through the power of the people's "knowledge", the national accomplice structure will be disintegrated and similar persecutions will be minimized.
As one of the victims of the Tai Ji Men tax case, Chang Meiying recalled that more than 400 print media reports and 70 TV media reports discredited Tai Ji Men as an evil religious group; therefore, for a long time, she dared not to watch TV, read newspapers, or even walk on the street in Tai Ji Men’s uniforms and furthermore dared not to mention anything to do with Tai Ji Men in family gatherings. Later, when she learned how prosecutor Hou Kuanjen threatened to extort a confession, gave false information to the media, and the media did not even check the authenticity of the sources of the information, she cried countless times. She could not believe the prosecutor as a civil servant would frame innocent people like this; that year she was completely disappointed with public power and the media.
Chang Meiying stated that on September 25, 2003, the judge of the first-instance, Chao Tsejung, acquitted Tai Ji Men in court. At that time, many brothers and sisters took the first-instance decision to make photocopies and used them to worship their ancestors. Because this case has dragged on for 7 years, many people had passed when this court decision finally arrived. How they longed for justice! In 2007, the third-instance judicial judgment confirmed the innocence of the defendants: no tax and no violation of the tax collection law. Logically, the indictment had been abandoned. Unexpectedly, the National Taxation Bureau continued to issue illegal taxation based on the indictment. Today (2020) August 21, the Tai Ji Men land was illegally and forcibly auctioned by the Administrative Enforcement Agency, which dealt a greater blow to her. She denounced these law-enforcers with public powers for blatantly violating the law and called them as a malignant tumor to Taiwan's democratic rule of law.
Chang Meiying questioned how many unjust cases are hidden in the more than 10 million cases of enforcement of arrears of taxes and fees each year in Taiwan? How many people’s property was auctioned? I hope that through the intelligible writing method of this book, everyone has the opportunity to understand and disseminate tax cases so that tax cases can be discussed publicly just like judicial cases. Only when there is a review, there will be opportunities for progress. If law enforcement officers who violate the law do not introspect, are not subject to review, and are not punished, then the entire crime structure will not be loosened. She called on all the people to unite and restore Taiwan’s human rights, justice, democracy, and the rule of law, and hope for the future.
According to Chang Shuchen, director of a publishing house, the book "Who Stole Their Youth" records the blood and tears of thousands of Tai Ji Men dizi suffering for 24 years, as well as some unbelievable cases. The government's methods of persecuting the people and Tai Ji Men are exactly the same. It is believed that it is through serendipity that this book was published and it will inspire everyone who reads it. Therefore, the victims’ suffering is no longer suffering, but it has turned into a blessing for more people.
Chang Shuchen said that the country we love can actually hurt us the most. The tears have run dry, people and things have changed, and there will be no more compromise. Therefore, we have the courage to unveil this unreasonable administrative relief system. We don’t believe that there is no justice and we don’t allow truth to be blurred. The world has been watching and she hopes that Taiwan will become a country that truly values human rights, and that future generations can continue to live in this free and democratic land.
