At least six wildfires are still raging in Los Angeles County. On January 10, the sheriff's department announced that more than 100,000 people were under evacuation orders, with tens of thousands more under warnings. Officials say two more evacuation shelters, Lanark Recreation Center and Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center, have opened in Los Angeles.

At least 11 people are dead. Officials warned that the real toll would not be known until investigators could safely enter areas. At least 10,000 houses were destroyed. According to the Los Angeles County Assessor, entire neighborhoods have been destroyed.

Firefighters have made progress, with the Hurst Fire now 70% contained and the Kenneth Fire 50% contained. Officials say the coastal Palisades Fire is at least 8% controlled. Crews expect significant containment of the Eaton Fire in Altadena at night on January 10.
