Porous Nanosorbent Increase Efficiency of Engine Oil Recycling

Iranian researchers from Institute for Color Science and Technology (ICST) and Orumiyeh University of Technology produced porous nanosorbent with modified structure which can increase the efficiency in the recycling of used engine oil in automobiles.
The porous nanosorbent is made of natural materials. The application of the sorbent significantly helps the reduction in environmental pollution in case it is mass produced. The research was carried out by taking samples from materials in industrial units.
It is very costly to produce industrial oils from petroleum sources. Therefore, the recycling and reuse of industrial oils significantly decrease the cost of the production of basic oil as well as reducing toxic effects and environmental pollution.
Adsorption is one of the most important parts in the recycling of used oils. The aim of the research was to produce porous nanosorbent with high sorption capacity to prevent the production of toxic waste as well as to increase the rate of efficiency. Therefore, a sorbent with nanometric pores has been made of natural bentonite, and its performance has been studied in the recycling of used oils.
Researchers hope that the produced modified sorbent can be used by petroleum and refinery units, industrial oil recycling units, food extract production plants, and units to purify industrial wastewater containing dye and heavy metals.
