In response to the Environmental Protection Agency announcing the final Clean Power Plan regulations will be published tomorrow in the Federal Register, WWF Vice President of Climate Change Lou Leonard issued the following statement:
“This marks a pivotal moment in President Obama’s climate change legacy. By bringing the Clean Power Plan to life, the Administration has shown exactly the kind of bold and forward-thinking action we need. Solidly grounded in existing law, this plan is a major victory for all Americans who support clean air and action to combat climate change. And the leadership it represents is being noticed far beyond our borders.
“Next month in Paris, this robust U.S. action will help catalyze even bigger results when world leaders meet to hash out a global agreement to turn the corner on climate change. A strong deal in Paris that is based in science and ratchets up efforts over time can put us on a clear path to a clean energy future and help us avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
“The Clean Power Plan alone can’t ward off the most devastating impacts of climate change, but it has an essential part to play. When combined with commitments from over 150 other countries that have also begun to act, the Administration's actions could make 2015 a decisive turning point in the fight against climate change."
