2° CSES Satellite Workshop

2° CSES Satellite Workshop
Beijing, 23 - 25 August

CSES (China Seismo-Electromagnetism Satellite) is the first space-based platform of Chinese earthquake monitoring system, funded by the CNSA (China National SpaceAdministration).
An important memorandum of understanding was signed in 2013 by the Italian Space Agency and the CNSA to initiate a collaboration in this particular research field, which sees Italy at the cutting edge.

The Italian contribution to the mission is related to theparticles detector HEPD (design, production, test and delivery) and to the electric field detector EFD (cooperation in its production). Italy will also contribute to test the EFD and other tools realized by the Chinese cooperation.
The National Institute of Nuclear Physics, that strongly works with China Earthquake Administration (CEA), is the ASI main partner in the cooperation ASI – CNSA. Other Italian research institutes and universities are involved in this programme, due to their specific skills: INAF-IAPS in Rome, University of Trento, Telematic University UniNettuno and INGV.

Depending on planning, the satellite is expected to be launched in 2017. Its operational life will be 5 years.
The second workshop focused on the CSES satellite will be held in Beijing from 23 to 25 August 2016. The main objectives of this workshop are: presenting a status report on CSES' space and ground segment, discussing scientific topics such as the geomagnetic field, earthquakes and data processing.
