San Francisco, CA — Today hundreds will gather at a public hearing in San Francisco to voice support for the Clean Power Plan, the country’s first-ever federal carbon pollution limits for our nation's electric power plants and a critical tool in the fight against climate change.
As co-counsel for Sierra Club, Earthjustice is part of the legal team defending the Clean Power Plan against lawsuits brought by fossil fuel interests and allied states and has its headquarters in San Francisco. The following is a statement from Earthjustice President Trip Van Noppen:
“After a year of particularly harmful climate-related disasters in California, Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico, the rest of our nation and around the globe, the need for strong climate protections couldn’t be any clearer. The Clean Power Plan, our nation’s first-ever federal carbon pollution limits for power plants, offers a path forward to limit the worst impacts. We know that we need all oars rowing together to address this problem - yet EPA is proposing to row backwards, throwing us dangerously off course.
“At today's hearing, we will show up to fight with our clients and partners for our shared future. Whether it's defending the Clean Power Plan in court, pushing state utility regulators to abandon fossil fuel investments in favor of clean energy, or working with leaders of island nations defending their very existence, we are committed to the fight against catastrophic climate change – and for clean energy – on all fronts."
