The SPX Lightnin brand is known for its robust, long-lasting mixers, agitators, aerators and flocculators used in a wide range of fluid process applications. The Lightnin mixer lines encompass innovative features to help increase process efficiency, reduce energy costs and provide give longer running times.

Through its Lightnin brand, SPX has over 90 years of unrivalled experience in industrial mixing technology, in-depth process knowledge and technological innovation. It enjoys a global reputation for durable, long-lasting mixers, agitators, aerators, and flocculators for fluid process systems with a full spectrum of impeller designs for diverse applications. This includes water and wastewater applications such as chemical makeup and storage, flocculation, flash mixing, neutralisation, sludge mixing, potable water, desalination, cooling water, irrigation, metal processing and many more.

Within the Lightnin range are the Series 10 mixers which deliver a superior combination of value and performance with highly efficient single and double reduction gear reducers. Offering numerous motor options, the Series 10 units provide unmatched great durability with long gear and bearing life, a unique output shaft connection and fewer moving parts which simplifies maintenance. The gear reducer dry-well construction with no submerged oil seals or split lines below the oil level help eliminate the potential for oil leakage into the tank. Available in 0.75kW – 22kW installed power with 9 to 125rpm shaft speeds, the Lightnin Series 10 mixers are ideally suited for flocculation and mixing applications.

The clever design of the Lightnin Nettco i-Series mixers makes them a highly flexible and economical mixing solution. They offer portable and fixed mount options with a unique modular assembly that means the mounting configuration can be swiftly changed to meet multiple operational needs; making them an extremely versatile site solution.

The lightweight Lightnin i-Series mixers are manufactured to exceptionally high quality at a competitive price. Using proven planetary gearing, the mixers are robust and reliable and highly efficient for multiple applications with a choice of carefully designed impeller options.

Impellers to handle specific application challenges

Based on an in-depth understanding of mixing processes, SPX has developed a range of impellers that help to ensure efficient operation for a given application. The Lightnin A510 hydrofoil impeller is widely used in water and other low viscosity applications. It provides a highly efficient solution with high axial flow per installed power that offers the potential to reduce power requirements by up to 40% compared to traditional technology, resulting in lower lifetime running costs.

In wastewater and other applications where fibrous solids are present, the Lightnin Clean-Edge impeller is a patented design to prevent rag accumulation and achieves steady and stable operation in hard operating conditions. The Clean-Edge impeller gives the high axial flow and performance of a modern, high efficiency hydrofoil impeller blade but it resists the build-up of fibrous solids using a wide, central blade that sweeps back to an angled tip. The width of the blade makes it difficult for rags to wrap around it. Any that do attach are forced to the wider, high velocity part of the blade by the blade profile where they cannot wrap around and flow velocities force them to slip off.

The Lightnin Clean-Edge impeller has been designed to match the power number (Np) and pump number (Nq) of existing hydrofoil impeller installations. This enables easy retrofit where ragging has become an issue to performance and cost of the process. The improved operation of these blades offer a quick return on investment as they reduce power consumption as the mixers continue to operate within their optimum performance window.
Designed for efficiency and reliability

Whatever the process, SPX Lightnin mixers are designed and developed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to optimize processes. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is also often employed to carry out mechanical, thermal and vibration analysis to ensure total integrity of the complete installation. These advanced techniques help ensure customers are getting the best from their processes and to give the peace of mind that reliability is built into the design.

The SPX Lightnin portfolio includes a wide variety of top entry and side entry mixers that meet an extensive range of applications and have well-proven mechanical design for long service life. All are supported by a worldwide service network, mixer repair, gearbox repair and replacement parts programs to help customers get the best performance, reliability and availability from their mixers.
