Aberdeen, 5th May 2015 – Oil and gas company MOL Energy UK today received artwork from some of Aberdeen's artists and designers of the future, the fruits of a six-‐week project with a local primary school.
The handover of the artwork took place at Walker Road Primary School in Torry, and is the culmination of a project in conjunction with social enterprise Transition Extreme Sports, Gray's School of Art, and MOL Energy UK.
Thirty pupils from Primary 5 class at Walker Road Primary School were asked to create artwork based on the theme of 'positive transition'. Class teacher Miss Eilidh Munro and Communication Design students of Gray's School of Art worked with the pupils every Wednesday to help them interpret and develop the assignment.
MOL Energy UK supported the project by providing £1,000 to Transition Extreme Sports towards an adventure day for the children.
The final pieces of artwork were handed over to Chris Bird, Managing Director of MOL Energy UK, and will take pride of place in MOL Energy UK's new offices at Riverside House.
Speaking at the handover, Mr. Bird said: "A lot of time and effort has gone into this project, and I am delighted to accept the pictures today. Against a challenging backdrop in terms of the oil price and industry costs, MOL Group has undergone its own positive transition into the North Sea market in the past year. The pictures will serve as a great reminder of this as they hang in our new offices – all the children have done an excellent job of illustrating the theme and reminding us that we cannot be successful without creativity".
