Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, announced the death of Pope Francis from the Casa Santa Marta on April 21. The Pope passed away on Easter Monday at the age of 88.
The Vatican press office issued a statement confirming that Pope Francis died from a stroke, which was followed by a coma and heart failure on the morning of April 21. The Pope had previously experienced acute respiratory failure and suffered from arterial hypertension and type II diabetes.
The late Pope's remains will be transferred to St. Peter's Basilica on April 23. The Holy See Press Office announced that the funeral Mass for Pope Francis will be held on April 26 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Square. Following the Mass, the coffin containing the Pope's body will be transported to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for burial.
