On the evening of March 13, one of the engines on an American Airlines aircraft at Denver International Airport caught fire. It emitted a thick black smoke into the air.
American Airlines Flight 1006 was flying from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth, with 172 passengers and six crew members. It was redirected to Denver around 5:15 p.m. local time. After landing, while taxiing to the gate, the engine caught fire.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that travelers at Denver International Airport used inflatable slides to safely drop to the ground. A crowd gathered on the wing of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
There were no reports of significant injuries. However, the airport stated that 12 people were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The FAA agency indicated that it would investigate the reason of the incident.
