US President Donald Trump has put a 10% tariff on all Chinese exports. President Trump's tariffs took effect on February 4. The Chinese government replied with a slew of retaliatory measures.

Additional tariffs on liquefied natural gas, coal, farm machinery, and other US-made goods are among the retaliatory measures. They will become effective on February 11. China also immediately blocked the export of some critical minerals, many of which are used in the production of high-tech goods.

Trump promised to put 60% tariffs on China throughout his presidential campaign. Trump campaigned to win an economic competition with China.

Meanwhile, China has made a complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO). China asserted that the United States had broken trade rules and engaged in discriminatory and protectionist activities.
