CNN's Erin Burnett and photojournalist Josh Zaida flew above Los Angeles' areas devastated by the Palisades and Eaton fires on January 11. Erin Burnett flew over Los Angeles to assess the level of destruction caused by wildfires.

On January 14, California Governor Gavin Newsom toured the Pacific Palisades neighborhood with Cal Fire's Nick Schuler, looking at the destruction. Governor Newsom announced on January 18 that the Los Angeles area's flames would rank among the greatest natural disasters in US history.

With some of the most valuable real estate in the country, the flames tore across Los Angeles. Private forecasters Accuweather projected damages between US$135 billion and US$150 billion.
