A Dutch father, Gerrit-Jan Van Dorsten, was accused of illegal detention, child abuse, sexual abuse and money laundering but was absent from the pre-trial hearing in Assen, a city in the northeastern Netherlands on January 21st, due to medical reasons.
The 67-year-old man and five of his adult children were found by the police in October 2019 in an isolated farmhouse in Ruinerwold village after the 25-year-old son escaped to a local pub in the village to ask for rescuing his siblings.
On January 21st, the prosecutor Diana Roggen told the judges that the father believed there was a “bad spirit” in his children, and that the children have been under very serious physical punishment since they were 4 or 5 years old.
However, the 5 children found at the farm are in consultation and didn’t support the charges. They believe their father is right and help them own happiness from God.
