Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy Hosts Transformative Health Symposiums
(July, 22, 2024, Pasadena & Walnut, CA) The Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy’s Pasadena and Walnut chapters each hosted a health symposium on July 6 and 7, respectively, featuring the transformative journeys of Howard Chan, a former CFO of a well-known global information and communications technology (ICT) company, and his wife, Yaling. These events highlighted the couple's inspiring stories of physical and mental renewal through the practice of Tai Ji Men Qigong.
Howard and Yaling also joined Tai Ji Men members from the greater Los Angeles area to participate in the 2024 Fourth of July Parade in South Pasadena. Arriving in Los Angeles from Seattle on July 3, the couple immediately rehearsed for the parade after a brief rest. At ages 72 and 65, respectively, Howard and Yaling demonstrated remarkable stamina and coordination during the parade, captivating the audience with their synchronization and vitality.
The parade, which saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, strengthened community bonds and spread positive energy. Howard shared that practicing Tai Ji Men Qigong has significantly improved his physical, mental, and spiritual health, and the parade served as a testament to his journey of transformation through qigong practice.
During the Independence Day weekend, Howard recounted that he started learning qigong from Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, the head of Tai Ji Men, in 2016. At the time, his health was deteriorating, with issues like gallstones and prostate enlargement. The passing of his mother made him realize the fragility and impermanence of life, leading him to start his qigong journey in March 2016.
Howard explained that Western medicine diagnosed him with chronic inflammation but offered limited treatment options. Traditional Chinese medicine revealed a congenital defect in his left kidney and a sports injury to his left knee, possibly from basketball. Fortunately, after practicing qigong, his knee pain disappeared, and his overall physical and mental state improved.
This journey made Howard aware of the significant impact of Tai Ji Men Qigong on his health and the deeper underlying issues behind his problems. He hopes that by sharing his experiences, he can inspire others to embark on their own journeys of improvement, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Howard also shared a touching story about his son’s wedding in 2017 in Seattle. The wedding, blending Eastern and Western elements, featured his speech on yin-yang philosophy and the balance of Tai Ji, deeply influencing the young attendees. Howard was pleasantly surprised to see his photo from the wedding on the wedding photographer's Instagram. A young American girl expressed how moved she was by his speech, which warmed his heart. Friends of his son who traveled from Chicago to attend the wedding also praised his speech. Howard attributed these positive reactions to the life wisdom and qigong he learned from Dr. Hong at Tai Ji Men. His story demonstrates that through Tai Ji Men Qigong, one can become a wise and positive individual, spreading good energy and wisdom to those around them.
Yaling mentioned that when Howard started practicing qigong, she decided to join him to ensure he could practice diligently and persevere. Now, after eight years, she has felt significant improvements in her own health as well. Yaling used to suffer from frequent nasal congestion, but after practicing qigong, her breathing improved, her oxygen intake increased, her cells became healthier, and her overall physical condition improved.
Additionally, Howard mentioned that Yaling used to snore loudly, but now this has stopped. Yaling, who disliked physical education classes as a child, experienced noticeable improvements in her physical condition after practicing Tai Ji Men Qigong, enhancing her overall vitality. She hopes her experience can encourage more people to try Tai Ji Men Qigong and benefit from it.
Joining Tai Ji Men also changed Yaling's social circle and mindset. After her first child was born, she chose to stay home to care for the baby due to difficulty finding a suitable babysitter, leading to a somewhat closed social life. However, after practicing qigong and interacting with fellow practitioners, her mindset became more open. Previously, she would never speak in front of a crowd, but now she can confidently share her experiences.

In the past, Yaling was a perfectionist and constantly worried about making mistakes. But at Tai Ji Men, Dr. Hong reminded them that as long as their intentions are sincere and kind, they should bravely take action. This shift reduced Yaling's worries and made her more cheerful, improving her quality of life.
Yaling's two sons live in Seattle. She believes that taking good care of her health, maintaining a positive mood, and not nagging her children are essential to maintaining good parent-child relationships. Her younger son willingly spends 15 minutes video chatting with his parents daily, which Yaling treasures.
Yaling believes that practicing qigong at Tai Ji Men with her husband and discussing life wisdom together allows them to stay healthy and wise, so that their children need not worry about them. These are great treasures they have acquired from Tai Ji Men.
The health symposiums and the parade participation by Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy members serve as powerful reminders of the benefits of qigong practice and the positive impact it can have on individuals and communities alike.
