The main library of one of Ireland's top universities was renamed in a formal ceremony. After 433 years, Ireland's oldest university takes a landmark choice. It bears the name of the well-known Irish feminist poet Eavan Boland.
Queen Elizabeth I founded Trinity College, Dublin. For over 400 years, each building on the prominent university campus has been named after a man. The library opened in 1967 and was previously named after philosopher George Berkeley. Berkeley, meanwhile, was accused of being a slave supporter.
Eavan Boland taught at Stanford University in California for many years. Boland was the director of creative writing for more than 20 years. She died at the age of 75 on April 27, 2020.
