The Trump administration's most recent endeavor to cut the size of the federal workforce was made public. On February 26, the Trump administration announced plans to conduct significant layoffs across government agencies.
The action came a day after the Trump administration discontinued the offer of deferred resignation for the country's two million government employees. On February 13, the government began laying off a huge number of staff from several governmental agencies.
President Donald Trump issued the executive order "Implementing The President's 'Department of Government Efficiency' Workforce Optimization Initiative". The Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management sent a memo to agency executives outlining how to carry out reorganization plans and reductions in force, or RIFs.
