A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake has reportedly hit 86 miles northwest of Lucea, Jamaica on January 28. The severe shockwave caused buildings to sway and prompted the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) to issue tsunami warnings in the Caribbean.
According to the report from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was identified between Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Cuba at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
Some office evacuations were temporarily taken as a precaution in parts of Jamaica and Miami. Several of the powerful aftershocks struck near Grand Cayman, a registered 6.1 magnitude, keeping residents with tremors. There were reportedly some sinkholes opened in roads and minor damage to buildings. By far, no cases of casualties were reported from the earthquake.
