The abuse of human rights with Uyghur Muslim minority caused the boycott with retailers’ giants such as H&M, Nike, and Adidas in China.
Several months ago, these international retailers raise their concerned about the issues of abusive human right in the cotton production industry in Xinjiang. After the Communist Youth League, a Chinese Communist Party group posted a statement on social media. The statement stated that these multinational corporations spread the rumors about Xinjiang cotton and wanted to make a profit in China at the same time. The tension of this issue has been increased into an extremely important topic this week.
According to the paper of Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), this organization addressed the concern about the cotton production in Xinjiang. In the conclusion, the paper urged to boycott brands which use the cotton from Xinjiang.
Some Chinese artists announced they would end the corporation with these international brands. The brand ambassador, actor Huang Xuan and actress Song Qian, released that they would no longer work with H&M.
In the past few weeks, some countries, including United States, United Kingdom and European, imposed sanctions on China. However, the Beijing official stated that these western countries were making lies.
The trend with these “forced labor” in Xinjiang has already influenced that stock of these international brands, including H&M, Nike, and Burberry. Some multinational brands might hesitate to promote their products made by Xinjiang cotton, but some brands like Japanese Muji promoted their products which were made by Xinjiang cotton.
