On April 2, President Donald Trump announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs that will impose a minimum 10% tariff on all goods entering the United States. The White House identified the "worst offenders" as China, the European Union, and other countries. Their rates are higher in response to unfair trade practices.
However, at the White House announcement on April 2, President Trump stated that the measures were necessary. More than 60 trading partners were abusing the US by enforcing high tariffs and other trade barriers. China, Japan, the European Union, India, Vietnam, and Taiwan are among the most notable nations affected by the reciprocal tariffs, with 34%, 24%, 26%, and 32%, respectively.
The US is fighting to make its trade policy a "declaration of economic independence." At the White House Rose Garden, President Trump proclaimed it as Liberation Day. The White House will begin imposing the 10% tariffs on April 5. In the meantime, beginning on April 9, the US will begin imposing the increased tariffs on specific countries.
