US President Donald Trump has offered federal workers the choice to leave and receive salary for eight months. The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website revealed the buyout plans in the afternoon on January 28.
The notice allowed employees until February 6 to accept the offer. The Trump administration is making a big effort to reduce and overhaul the United States government. Senior Trump administration officials told US media that the "deferred resignation" plan may save the country up to $100 billion.
The OPM's buyout offers do not include postal workers, military personnel, immigration authorities, or some national security teams. Employees who wanted to resign were instructed to reply to an email from their government accounts with the word "resign" and click submit.
