On March 5, a divided Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration's request to freeze billions of dollars in congressionally approved foreign aid. The ruling was 5-4. However, the court did not specify when the money must be delivered.
The disagreement arose when two major international aid contractors questioned Trump's 90-day moratorium on foreign aid. Previously, the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition and the Global Health Council sued to challenge the Trump administration's cuts to USAID and the State Department.
The Trump administration indicated in court filings that it intends to terminate more than 90% of USAID's international aid awards. The ruling only mandates the Trump administration to reimburse contractors for completed foreign aid projects. The sum is almost $2 billion.
