An ML 4.1 earthquake occured last night at 03h52 (local time) close to Ramsgate, Kent (UK).
The relatively great depth, estimated at 15 km, explains why no damage has been observed in the epicentral area, and why this event was felt in a broad area, up to a distance of 250 km from the epicenter.

This earthquake was located approximately 24 km northeast of the ML 4.3 Folkestone earthquake that occurred on 28 April 2007. Destructive magnitude 6 earthquakes struck the south of the North Sea and the English Channel in 1382 and 1580.
The previous earthquake that was felt in Belgium occurred near Spa on May 13, 2015 (magnitude 2.9).
