Archaeologists digging on Gracechurch Street in the Square Mile discovered a fragment of stone wall from the city's earliest basilica. Remnant stone walls were formed of Kentish limestone.

The discovery, dating from 70-80 AD, occurred beneath the basement of an office building. Archaeologists discovered a considerable portion of the ancient city's first basilica.

It has been considered one of the most important pieces of Roman history discovered in the city of London. It was identified as a 2,000-year-old public building where important political, economic, and administrative decisions were made.

There is a rising push to discover new ways to showcase these sites to the public. According to reports, the location will eventually be converted into a basement visitor center, adding to the city's Roman heritage.
