On December 31st, 2019, the orchestra musicians of Paris Opera performed a symphonic show on the steps of the Bastille Opera to express their rages towards the pension plans. It was their first performance after their nearly one month silent strike.
French President Emmanuel Macron proposed to replace 42 various retirement plans into a single system. He believed the new pension system with single, points-based mechanism would be more impartial and financially sustainable. However, the reform raised a nationwide strike began on 5 December.
The previous pension schemes allow most of the public-sector workers to gain pension at their 42 at the earliest while the new one would be used for workers who are employed after January 2022. Therefore, the employees of Paris Opera have declined to act since December 5th, leading to loss of more than 8 million euros in revenues, according to the Paris Opera.
